Pumpkin Nut Bars

Pumpkin Nut Bars
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ginger
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
2/3 cup pumpkin
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup chopped nuts
Combine all ingredients except nuts in a large mixing bowl. Beat for 2 minutes with an electric mixer at medium speed. Fold in nuts. Spread evening in a 13” x 9” x 2” pan. Bake in moderate oven (350 deg. F.) 20 to 25 minutes.
Spread with orange Frosting.

Orange Frosting
2 tablespoons shortening
1 1/2 cups icing sugar, sifted
1 tablespoon grated orange rind
2 tablespoons orange juice
Makes: About 1 cup
