Note: The province of Nova Scotia did not keep birth, marriage and death records prior to 1864, and no provincial birth or death registry was kept from 1877 to 1907 due to difficulties in the financing of officers to maintain the records. Birth registrations, in particular, are very informative in that they list the individualís birthdate, sex, names of the parents, as well as the date and location of the parentsí marriage.
Newspaper Index All vital statistics have been extracted from Liverpool newspapers and the Gold Hunter of North Queens. Cabinets, on the back wall of Thomas H. Raddall Research Centre in Queens County Museum contain 115,000 index cards, in alphabetical order by surname, starting with 1864 births, deaths and marriages. This project is the work of Queens County Museumís family history group.
